College Grants

What Is A Grant?

A grant is a form of financial aid, that is given to students to help to pay for their college education. Like a scholarship, and unlike a student loan, grants do not need to be repaid.

While scholarships are based on academic merit, ethnic background or other criteria, grants are generally based on financial need. When applying, the entity giving the grant will usually ask for financial information from the student, and the student's family. This information is used to determine how much the student is eligible to receive.

Grants are usually awarded to students by:

  • The Federal Government

  • The State Government

  • Colleges & Universities

In some cases, the grants are also given by individuals, and private organizations.
